The ever increasing numbers of women who seek breast enhancement every year have their own individual reason. Your motivation may be simply the self-consciousness that comes with having small breasts. It could be that you feel disappointed in the way your breasts have sagged and lost volume through the normal processes of childbearing. Or perhaps your breasts are asymmetrical and cause you embarrassment in certain situations.
No matter exactly why you're dissatisfied with your breasts, the impact those feelings have on your life is important and in the end you self confidence suffers. A breast enlargement procedure can enhance one's breast size and shape, resulting in a more desirable proportions.
After surgery, breasts appear fuller and more natural in tone and contour. The result of breast augmentation can be satisfying, even exhilarating, for many women and their partner. If, with aging, the appearance of the breasts change, it is possible to undergo a breast lift to improve contour.
The duration of the procedure is approximately 2 - 21/2 hours. It is carried out under general anaesthesia. Overnight hospital stay is required.
Information about Breast Augmentation:
Approved by the FDA in 2006, silicone implants are made of a silicone rubber shell and are filled with silicone gel.
- Breast implants differ by shape, texture, and profile.
- Breast implants may be round or contoured, and may have a smooth or textured surface.
- The Breast implants profile may be standard, moderate, high or extra high.
- Lastly, Breast implants vary by size, or volume.
The type, style, and size of breast implants you choose are determined by your lifestyle, body contours, the amount of breast tissue you have, and the cup size and appearance that you would like to achieve.
There is no significant evidence that suggests silicone implants increase your risk for breast cancer, connective tissue disorders, or autoimmune disease.
Placement of Breast Implants
A woman's breast is a soft tissue that extends over and beyond the pectoral muscles of the upper chest. The breast consists of glands and milk ducts, surrounded by fatty tissue which provides its shape and soft form. The elasticity of your skin also contributes to its shape.
- Subglandular implant placement places the breast implant under the breast tissue, but above the muscles in the chest.
- Dual Plane (Partial submuscular) implant placement places the Breast implants under the breast tissue, and partially under the pectoral and other chest muscles.
- Complete submuscular implant placement places the breast implant under the pectoral and chest muscles.
Incisions (*preferred by us)
The *infra mammary incision (crease or fold incision) is placed near the crease where the breast and chest come together
The *transaxillary incision (transax or armpit incision) is placed in the natural folds of the skin of the armpit.
The periareolar incision (nipple incision) is placed along the outline of the areola, or the brown or pink pigmented region surrounding the nipple.
A single small inframammary incision is placed along the crease of the lower portion of each breast. Its length and appearance may vary depending on the type and size of implant, your body contours, and the surgeon's preference.
The breast pocket for placement of the breast implant is created following careful dissection.
The Silicone implants are inserted in the pockets ensuring that the desired look is achieved.
We choose to use dissolving sutures, which need not be removed. The scars from the incisions will fade slowly over several months, but it may take up to a year for them to refine completely.
There will be temporary soreness, swelling, a change in nipple sensation and possibly bruising for 2 - 3 weeks, but you'll be up and around in 24 to 48 hours. Most of your discomfort can be controlled by medication prescribed by us.
Within several days, the gauze dressings, will be removed, and you will be given a surgical bra which should be worn as directed. Your stitches if any will come out in a week to 10 days, but the swelling in your breasts may take 3 - 5 to disappear.
A return to work, if not physically strenuous, is possible in a few days. Showering is permitted between 3 - 7 days following surgery. Driving is permitted after 2 weeks and exercise after 2 to 3 weeks. Avoid much physical contact, for 3 - 4 weeks after surgery. After several months, your scars will begin to fade, although they will never disappear completely.
We will schedule frequent follow-up visits in the months after surgery, to check on the healing. If you have any unusual symptoms between visits, or any questions about what you can and can't do, don't hesitate to contact us.
