ABDOMEN LIPOSUCTION

ABOUT ABDOMEN LIPOSUCTION

The abdomen is an area of the body that can be treated by liposuction for both men and women. However, the factors that affect the success of abdominal liposuction include the amount and location of the layers of fat present in the abdomen. Accumulation of abdominal fat may occur because of a number of causes.

Aging is one of the cause that brings a general redistribution of fat in the body especially around the abdomen. In fact for most of the women, childbirth, and pregnancy may also be an important factor that can leave behind a roll of stubborn and unsightly belly fat. In fact, genetics also plays a major role in the accumulation of belly fat.

Benefits of Abdominal Liposuction

However, when it comes to addressing fat in the abdominal areas it is only about those fatty tissues that are resistant to diet and exercises. Typically, the abdominal fat occurs in two different levels, superficial and deep. The superficial level is the subcutaneous fat layers which lie beneath the skin and on top of the abdominal muscles. Whereas, the deep abdominal fat is located inside the abdominal cavity on the intestines.

However, a successful abdominal liposuction may be determined by the patient’s satisfaction with the results. But to get satisfactory results it is important for the patients to keep realistic expectations and to be in a good mental and physical health with no serious physical complications.

Surgical procedure

Tumescent liposuction is one of the most common methods that is used for the removal of fat around the abdominal area. This liposuction procedure is considered as the safest procedure since a large amount of saline water is injected into the fatty tissues under the skin. Small incisions are made on the fatty areas that are to be treated and then a small tube known as a cannula is attached with a vacuum suction. The cannula is moved in a back and forth controlled motion that loosens the fat and sucks it out of the body. This entire procedure may take around 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on the amount of fat to be removed. After the fat removal procedure, the incisions are kept open for the drainage of the fluid injected. Swelling and bruising are normal after undergoing this procedure.

Before, during and after undergoing the procedure

Before the procedure, the patients are evaluated by the surgeon to determine if they are suitable candidates to undergo the procedure. Candidates with any serious health issues are not recommended for this procedure since it may increase the chances of complications.

During the procedure, the candidates are administered with general or local anesthesia depending on the surgeon. Candidates under local anesthesia can go back to their home after the completion of the procedure but those with general anesthesia have to spend a night at the hospital.

After the completion of the surgery, the surgeons usually provides the patients with a list of all the post-operative instructions. Following these instructions may reduce the chances of rising complications and side effects. Medication for pain is not required after the procedure since in most of the cases the pain is within the tolerance level.

LIMITATIONS

Yes, it is true that Liposuction can help us get rid of all the unwanted fat in our body but it is true that Liposuction is neither a solution for obesity nor a weight loss regime. Liposuction works best on the fat deposits that are concentrated in particular areas and is resistant to exercise. After following a Liposuction procedure the candidates may lose some weight. However, liposuction of the abdominal fat cannot fix a bulging stomach that was caused due to the weakness of the abdominal wall, neither can it tighten loose skin. In order to obtain a flat, smooth, toned abdominal area surgeons often prefer to combine liposuction with abdominoplasty which is also known as tummy tuck. In the tummy tuck, the loosened abdominal muscles can also be repaired and the excess skin can be eliminated.

Procedure FAQs

Q Does Liposuction produce permanent results?

After undergoing the abdominal liposuction procedure the body’s shape becomes more or less permanent. The results will not change unless the patient gains a moderate amount of weight after undergoing the liposuction procedure. The fat cells once removed by liposuction do not come back but that does not mean the fat of the surrounding areas will not grow.

Q What can I expect if I get pregnant after Liposuction?

Pregnancy does not permanently change the results. When a woman is pregnant she will definitely gain weight and after giving birth to the child the mother will definitely lose the excess weight which will revive the liposuction results.

Q Will liposuction help to get rid of the cellulite in the abdominal area?

No, Liposuction is not responsible for removing the cellulite that is often present in the abdominal area. Liposuction is only responsible for removing the stubborn fat pockets from targeted areas of the body. The cellulite or sagging skin can be eliminated by undergoing a Tummy tuck or a mini tummy tuck procedure.

Q How much fat can be removed at once?

The maximum amount of fat that can be removed safely is relative, however, three to four liters of fat can be removed safely. Removing more fat will increase the risk of experiencing serious complications. However, this three to four liters of fat are removed separately within three to four weeks.
