ABOUT BELT-LIPECTOMY
A belt Lipectomy is a procedure that involves removing the loose skin and fat around the waist or belt line. When people gain a lot of weight, the skin slowly stretches over time. Now after they lose weight in this condition, the skin loses its elasticity and can not be brought back to its old form. This results in the formation of an extra skin fold on the upper arms under the chin and along the inner parts of the thigh. This condition can only be rectified by undergoing Belt Lipectomy.
A Belt Lipectomy surgery involves removing the extra tissues and by creating an incision around the lower back and belly portion to take out the extra skin and fat. After completion, all of the incisions are sutured up to obtain a smooth and even skin contour. The main aim of the surgery is to flatten the stomach and lift up the buttocks and the outer side of the thighs. Thus. this body-contouring procedure is executed under general anesthesia.

Patients who have recently lost a significant amount of weight, experience a large amount of sagging skin around the belly portion. Belt Lipectomy helps to get rid of the sagging skin and gives a pleasant appearance. This procedure can also help to get rid of the discomfort that was caused due to the extra sagging skin. The patients also gain a better fit into their clothing, improved confidence and they are no more self-conscious about their condition.
Belt Lipectomy procedure generally takes about four hours under general anesthesia. The incisions are made in the abdomen as well as on the lower back which extends across the perimeter of the abdomen. The surgeon makes sure that the incisions are made in such places, that the incisions can be hidden under the clothing. The abdominal skin wall and the fat are raised over the abdominal wall fascia and muscle. As the muscle and the fascia are exposed, they can be tightened with sutures for supplementary benefit. Finally, the skin and the fat of the abdominal walls are pulled back to its condition. Similarly, the extra skin and fat of the outer thighs and buttocks are pulled up for the removal. The surgeon then efficiently contours the body from the ribs to the knees, then outer thighs and finally the buttocks. At the end of the procedure, the soft tissues and the incisions are sutured up together. Liposuction may be applied on certain areas of unaddressed fat deposits.
After the completion of the surgery, the incisions are generally covered up with bandages and special restrictive compression garments are placed around the abdomen and the waistline. This compression garment usually provides additional support to the skin to minimise any discomfort or swelling. The minimum pain and swelling that the patient experiences can be controlled with the pain and anti-inflammatory medications that are prescribed by your surgeon. However, it is very important to follow the instructions provided by your surgeons it can help the candidates to minimize the potential complications.
Generally, the patients are advised to take complete bed rest for about two weeks so that the sutures can heal completely after which normal activities can be resumed. Heavy exercises and strenuous activities can be resumed after several months after the surgery.
Even though Belt Lipectomy is a safe procedure, it still is a surgical procedure that carries some risks and complications. People who have lost a huge amount of weight suddenly, usually experience these complications related to healing, infection at the incision sites, heavy bleeding, a formation of blood clots, etc. The candidates may not always get the results they desired and in such cases, they may need to opt for another surgical procedure to fix the defect. The risks often depend on the age, amount of weight loss, the health condition of the patient and the amount of tissue removed.
The surgeon will discuss all the pros and cons of the procedure before undergoing the procedure and will verify if the candidate holds a realistic expectation or not. The patient must reach a stable weight. Candidates who are addicted to smoking are asked to quit so that the recovery is not interrupted.
During the procedure, the anesthesiologist analyses the physical condition of the patient and then administers the right amount of anesthesia required. The surgeon usually provides antibiotics both before and after the procedure to avoid infections. Next, the surgeon starts making incisions to remove the extra skin and tissues to create a smooth contour.
After undergoing the procedure, when the candidate wakes up, they feel minor discomfort and pain which can be relieved with proper medications. The surgeons provide set of post-op instructions before they leave for home.
