A neck lift procedure may take approximately 2-3 hours, and several hours if combined with a facelift. We prefer general anesthesia. We also prefer to hospitalize patients for a day following the procedure.

During cervicoplasty, two incisions are made either under or behind the ear. When combined with a platysmaplasty, a small incision is made under the chin. Sections of skin are trimmed, lifted into place and sutured. The platysma may be plicated or a portion of it removed in order to reduce the appearance of skin laxity and banding around the neck. The skin can be brought together under or behind the ear to further firm up appearance of the neck Neck liposuction may also be an option to remove fat to further sculpt the area.

During the recovery period, you need to wear a compression garment for several days. This garment helps improve blood circulation, minimizes swelling, allows the patient to heal faster and minimizes the downtime while providing comfort and support to the neck.Even though swelling takes a few weeks to subside, patients should be able to start seeing the results of their neck lift within a week following surgery.Patients will notice more definition in their neck and under the jaw line You will likely feel well enough to return to work in 5 – 10 days depending on the procedure carried out; however you should avoid strenuous activity such as heavy lifting or exercise for up to three weeks to allow your body sufficient time to heal.

With any cosmetic procedure, there is always the possibility of risks. A neck lift may involve multiple procedures, so, there is an increased risk. The most common risk for any cosmetic procedure is allergic reaction to the anesthesia. Other potential complications are hematoma, injury to the nerves that control, infection. Excessive scar tissue is another possible cause for concern, however, scar revision procedures can help.

The risks are significantly higher in smokers, diabetics & hypertensives. Smokers should stop smoking two weeks before surgery because this contributes to poor healing of the skin.
